Mr. A, a former professional baseball player, received an envelope containing 300,000 yen (about 3.3 million won) from the player’s parents at a training ground in Japan in February 2020, when he was working as a baseball team coach at a private school. The Improper Solicitation and Graft Act prohibits school staff from accepting money or valuables in excess of 1 million won at a time or 3 million won in one fiscal year from a single person, regardless of title.
